There used to be a bar and sandwich shop in Portland, called Bogart's. They served sandwiches named after different Humphrey Bogart movies, and the menu explained the ingredients and related them to each film in some way. They were on the second floor of a downtown mall, and friends worked in a shop on the next floor up in the mall. Whenever I sit in a coffee shop watching the street through the rain, my heart remembers afternoons in that restaurant, drinking coffee and waiting for a girl I have a crush on to join me for lunch.

Hey, the one time I was staying at your place down in Portland eighteenish years ago, the group of us all packed off to some coffeehouse that was in an old house, had (that night) live classical music playing and had a poetical but not exactly detailed menu that gave descriptions along the lines of "something to do with peach ice cream".

I've occasionally wanted to track it down. Of course, it likely doesn't exist anymore...

Any clues?

They're still there.

Yay!

Okay, I already knew I had to visit Portland, now I really have to go. And go back. Hmm... and not eat anything involving peach ice cream, damn dairy allergy.

Whatever you do, avoid the weekend of November 18th, 'cuz a bunch of us will be there.

(I've been practicing reverse psychology, I'm not sure I'm doing it right, though)

Ah yes.

Heidi and I used to hang out there all the time when she was working in the Galleria.

Good times.

Probably not -- certainly not unless I stumble across some really cheap tickets and don't splurge too much on books. (I'm buying very little fiction, and a lot of reference books. This gets expensive.)

I think I'm going to be out on the west coast around the end of the year, but I haven't gotten tickets for that, either.
